ERIC CARAMELO (https://soundcloud.com/caramelo)
A pioneer of his generation, Caramelo started professionally in the early 90s, motivated by the new, exciting underground scene that rocked the whole world. The São Paulo born artist started to lay the cornerstone of this style in Brazil.
Heavily influenced by the hot and vibrant music from Detroit, Chicago, Berlin and London, he built his powerful musical lab based on this awesome mixture of textures and grooves. Erik was a resident DJ at the biggest and most important and legendary nightclubs in São Paulo such as Sound Factory, Nation, Rhapsody, Pix, Hell’s Club and Lov.E Club.
Whilst he became a firm leadership of the electronic music revolution in Brazil, Caramelo was a notable presence on tours around clubs and festival all over Brazil and internationally, performing for thousands of people at events such as Skol Beats, Skol Spirit, Creamfields, Full Tronic, Parada da Paz, Organic, Astatik, MTV Amazônia, Spin, Warung Club and D-Edge Club in Brazil, and the international Pacha (Buenos Aires), Brazilian Day (Barcelona), Love Parade (Bogota), Smirnoff Experience (Caracas), Santiago and Vina Del Mar Chile, Rosario Argentina and Montevideo Uruguay.
2001 was a significantly prosper year in his musical journey. His album “Archive” made history, pressing into record his DJ skills. Released on Muquifo/Universal Records, it had tracks by the main artists all over the world such as the masters Jeff Mills, DJ Sneak, Colin Dale, Derrick L. Carter, Mr G and Rino Cerrone to name a few, among some of his original recordings. At the same time he started releasing his own productions and collaborations on his label Jumbo Records. International recognition, technical skills, knowledge and musical creativity paved his way onto production and sound design. All this experience and feeling opened doors at the greatest audio production companies in Brazil, both on films and advertising commercials. Some of them are the award-winning Coca Cola “Metro” (Cannes, Fr), Electrolux “Revolux” (Cannes, Fr), HSBC “Piano”, “Moeda” and “Prioridades” (Clube de Criação, Br), Panasonic “Lumix”, Zica (Nickelodeon Brasil), among many others in a vast portfolio.
More than twenty years afterwards, Erik Caramelo is still one of the most respected artists of the Brazilian underground scene. He is still an innovative visionaire, a reference and an influence for many others.
